Being an fan of skateboard designs and a long-time fan on The Simpsons, Mr. Sparkle Deck Series by ~one-relic absolutely tickled my fancy when it was shown to me. The use of the design from the box seen in the show incorporated with some catchy phrases make for a great overall look for the boards.

Description

I'd imagine that most people know who Mr. Sparkle is, but for those of you that don't, here's the stripped down basics.

Mr. Sparkle can first be found in The Simpsons episode 175, "In Marge We Trust". In the episode, Marge begins working part time at the church answering phones and giving advise as "The Listen Lady." While she is at the church, Homer, Bart and Lisa take a trip to the city dump to get rid of their aging (and very dead) Christmas tree when they find a strange Japanese box with a cartoon-style picture of Homer's face on it. After seeing how disturbed Homer becomes by the box, the three make it their goal to find out what the box is, and why Homer's face adorns the front of it.

Eventually the three find the Japanese company that makes the product and contacts them asking for additional information about the product. While talking to the company owner, Homer is informed that the product is called Mr. Sparkle. While speaking with the Mr. Sparkle executive, it is misunderstood that Homer is a potential investor, and he is sent a video explaining the product. At the end of the video, it is shown that the company is owned by two Japanese conglomerates, a fish company and an electric company. When creating the logo for Mr. Sparkle, they simply merged their two companies respective logos and it created a face that resembled Homer's.

The idea for this deck series all came about because of a former co-worker. At the time he had pinned a Homer Simpson picture up on the cork-board at his desk, and after a couple of days sitting there and staring at it, a nagging idea was born... That night work on a Homer Simpson based deck design began. As I was penciling ideas in my sketchbook, I kept coming around to the idea of Mr. Sparkle, as he had always been one of my favorite Homer-based characters. Eventually the design kind of just took off.

The colors are as true to the original as I could get them; making them a slight bit more vibrant, simply for the purposes of the design. The layout and design were done entirely in Adobe Illustrator CS, each piece redrawn from my initial sketches. I ended with three designs because I couldn't choose which Mr. Sparkle statement I liked the best.
